Gur’ai Humans
Basic description
The Gur’ai are a group of humans once split into a number of tribes across the plains and deserts of southern Elandir. Some years ago there was 13 tribes each led by a chieftain and supported by powerful individuals known as the Rhuidi (Magic users) each had warriors and they warred and traded between themselves.
The dominant of these tribes was the Gur’ailia tribe which was far south on the southern coasts were water was plentiful yet the harsh deserts still provided the environment needed to harden their warriors. The leader of this tribe Al’Tria was one such man, hardened by the sands and supported by his Rhuidi Jal’sui he led the Gur’ailia to victory over two of his neighbouring tribes.
Over the years that followed Al’Tria was victorious over the other tribes and united them all into a nation, he called his new nation Gur’ai. Over the years they learnt the arts to mine from the few mountains metal to use instead of hardened bone weapons and to make ships from the wood cut in the furthest north east edges of the nation. Within some 15 years the old tribes had become the Gur’ai and they had managed to gain a fleet of ships to trade with the north without risking the desert wastes in which countless beasts wondered including the feared Tru’Liara a giant insect like creature that burrowed under the desert to attack settlements and travellers.
Before long a place of power was found, a place were Rhuidi would be trained if they had the power within to use. This place was hidden deep within the mountains in the centre of the desert near were the beasts called the Fur’ai dwell. The place was named Rhuidian and only the most skilled ever emerge alive.
Now Al’Tria looks north to expand his nation of hardened warriors of the desert into the lush green plains to unleash his huge horde of thousands upon the north to take what should belong to the strong not the weak.
Gear used in the wastes of the south
Shurai- The Shurai is a blade made of polished bone that is given to all warriors at the age of 16. The bone is hardened by using an odd liquid and put in a fire and then sharpened to make a blade as hard as any metal. The blade is normaly the purest white and curved.
Ter’jal- The Ter’jal is the basic weapon used by the warriors of Gur’ai. It is a short spear with a hardened wooden shaft complete with a steel tip balanced to be thrown or used in close combat. Most warriors carry roughly three of these weapons, and use them to deadly effect.
Hura- The Hura is a weapon only used by warriors chosen for their skill in battle and commitment to the Gur’ai. It is a thin curved blade sharpened one edge made from steel found deep within Rhuidian and enchanted by the Rhuidi with power to cut through any surface as if it were cutting through butter.
The sharai- The sharai is the clothing a warrior wears. As the warriors are very fast and agile as oppose to an organised unit like a phalanx the clothing is mostly brown cloth that covers the warriors body. Over the chest, lower arm and upper legs is a light form of scale mail make of small hardened bone plates. Over all this armour is light and offers little protection but is made for camo on the desert wastes and to protect vital areas while not obstructing the wearers mobility.
Tyl- A small buckler used to defend against projectiles. Its made of hardened wood and worn on the left arm.
Gur’ai military structure
The Gur’ai although united is still divided into the 13 groups now known as clans. These clans each hold warriors and other military units as their own but send them to war alongside the Gur clan (The ruling clan) to war. The Gur clan is the largest and thus holds about 75% of the total army the rest is divided amongst the clans.
When at war the clan leaders decide if the cause is great enough to send their warriors to war and so not all clans may go to war,
Creatures of The deserts
Clothia- The Clothia are common in the deserts but are hostile. They are the size of a man and bear large claws. Although not dangerous alone they roam in packs of 10-20 and can overwhelm the small group of travellers.
Predatiars- Predatiars are often tamed and trained to be mounts for warriors. They have red scales and resemble small dragons with four legs. They are slower than a horse but they are strong and tend to bite an opponent. Wild Predatiars and hunted by Ghal and are not hostile unless threatened.
Hex- The hex are a small society of nomadic people. They are human like but without facial expression and they always wear robes of dark brown. They bear spears and blow pipes and use Ghal to hunt food and raid Gu’ai villages. They are a plague of the Gur’ai but no settlement of the Hex has ever been found.
Ghal- Ghal are rare in the wastes of the desert and the few there are trained by the Hex for hunting and mounts. They are large bear like creatures with leathery skin and large teeth and claws.
Fur’ai- These creatures are found only in Rhuidian and are deadly. They are like large lizards with a poison stinger in the tail. Their bite kills in minutes and their potent poison is a prize in society sold for high prices and valued by warriors.
Tru’Liara- The Tru’Liara is one of a kind and has been in the deserts longer than any human. It is a huge creature the size of a dragon and is insect like in many ways with huge scythe like arms. This creature Burrows under the sands and attacks randomly at villages and travellers. Its nest has never been found but even if it was no warrior of the desert would dare face this famed legendary creature of the sands.
