Quantilian people
"Mountain winds would kill us and forests are like wooden prisons, waters are for fish and deserts for deaths souls. But all green plains belongs to us, Quantilians, free people of the plains!"
Simple people with a big taste for freedom, living in the large area of plains around the biggest river on the continent, Korai, that is running from under Atlas mountains to the sea on the west.
Quantilians are not much aware about existence of other intelligent races. Their towns are usually built in middle of plains somewhere near a water source, and got one or more circles of wooden fortifications around them. Also you can always see a group of half-wild horses without saddles or gear grazing around. They speak by their own language, known as Konua.
They are ones of the best horseriders on the world, as they live together with them on the plains from beginning of their nation. They got a great respect for these animals and would never use them for "lesser work" like plowing, but still use them a lot - for quick travelling or, in case of war, to support their machinery - and believe that ride of quantilian cavalery is deadly. Everyone got "his" horse since childhood and so the animal usually wouldnt leave its master and lives with him for rest of life...
One of the worst weaknesses of these people is their fractionalism. There exist around 9 small villages and 3 bigger cities, every stubbornly standing for its own and almost constantly declaring war and struggling with the others.
The three big towns are:
~ Nerai, with population of 7 000 people, is standing right in the centre of the plains and is lead by Paerai´s ex-sorcerer, Kinether. Its gaining iron by trade with Urgor. By Kinether´s influence, it became unofficial centre of Quantilia Plains - and Kinether hopes that he may finally unite all the Quantilians from there, bringing peace to his people - by speaking, paying them or if needed, by force.
~ Urgor with its 5 000 citiziens, standing under cliff on the borders of the plains and Atlas mountains, its rather a fortress than civil city. Most of Quantilians dont like it because as the only one, it has stone fortifications. Also its inhabitans are known as the most agressive from all the people from plains and somehow reserved. It has iron industry and there exist rumours that it uses griffins from nearby mountains for their riders instead of horses...
~ Quoa with 7 500 people living inside is standing on the edge of plains near forests. There is the centre of worshippers of Paerai, that "has freed the city from the graps of the forest." The poorest city from the three if it comes on technology - but as the Paerai´s sorcerers are using their powers to burn down surrounding forests, it has quickly growing population due to fertile fields on the ashes of forest.
The quantilian soldiers are a bit different for every region of the plains, but generally we can say that they know no footmen fight - or even consider it underhanded. But of course, if you attack when they are standing on ground, they will not just stand to be beaten. They always fight from a back of their horses or shoot from bows from distance (but still most of them are not skilled in this).
Gear they use:
Keresh - one-handed shortswords made from metal, used in pair by horsemen in battles. Its rather a rare weapon as many of Quantilian tribes dont got access to iron (except Nerai and Urgor), but if you meet master of these blades in battle...
Niru - spear-like weapon of horsemen, usually made from wood (very rarely from metal). Most common weapon on the battlefield.
Kaquon - is long-range weapon made from wood, very similar to boomerang. Used by horsemen.
Other commonly used weapons are wooden shortbows, helmets and light leather armour.
