Dragons
Dragons are the oldest “non-intelligent” beings. They live for up to 5,000 years, reaching maturity at 1,000. When born, a dragon is about the size of a football (American style) when curled up. From head to tail tip they are 2 ½ - 3 feet long, and have a wingspan of 6 feet. After a year, dragons grow to about 8-10 feet long, with a wingspan of 16-20 feet. At this point, they are ride-able. Over the next 99 years, they grow to about double that size, then to maturity slowly over the next 900. They are no longer ride-able at the age of 500, and when fully grown reach about the size of a modern, medium sized apartment building (I won’t even try to guess the wingspan of that…). The proper name of a dragon, which is used by elves and most scholars/wizards, is “wyrm”. Some people believe that dragons are the servants of gods, and they exist to keep the mortal races in line.
Wyrmlings
Wyrmlings start out the same size as dragons, and appear nearly identical as them until the age of 1, when they stop growing. Wyrmlings live for 500-700 years, and make ideal mounts. Most common people mistake Wyrmlings for dragons, but any well educated person could tell them apart (especially for older ones).
Dragons and nests
All dragons or dragon like species (such as Wyrmlings) have nests. The nests will always be guarded by the mother; however the father may at times be out hunting. This means, to capture a dragon egg, you likely have to kill two full grown dragons, making them very rare to have as pets.
Red
Red dragons are native to the hottest places of the world, living in deserts, and near volcanoes wherever possible. Red dragons are your standard fire breathing dragons, and have thick hides.
Green
Green dragons are herbivores, unlike your standard dragons. They spit jets of acid, and have slightly below average hides.
Blue
Blue dragons do not have a breath attack, but have specially adapted wings to be able to “fly” through both water and air, and have both gills and lungs, making them perfectly adaptable to any terrain type. They have thick hides.
White
White dragons differ from all life in the sense that they do not need to stay warm. In fact, heat can kill them. White dragons can breathe out cold, which freezes anything it touches. White dragons have thick hides.
Black
Black dragons are very rare, and most of their qualities are unknown. It’s said they “breathe fear”, and that no one has been able to stand their ground against one of them, they just flee. Black dragon hides are nearly impenetrable.
Grey
Grey Dragons fly very slowly, can’t breathe anything special, can’t swim, and are rare. On the bright side, Grey dragon hide is impenetrable by anything but a god.
Gold
Gold dragons have weak (relatively, they still beat even dwarven plate) hides, and don’t have special breath powers. However, gold dragons are “intelligent” in the sense that they can, and often do, learn to speak human languages. Some rumors depict gold dragons using magic.
Silver
Silver dragons are the air dragons, are light considering their size, they have thick hides, and can fly at very fast speeds, because they have a wingspan nearly double (closer to 1.5x) that of the average dragon. Using their massive lungs and wings, silver dragons can create windstorms.
