Efren walked through the narrow gates that kept his people safe. He had ordered no one to follow him, nor keep him company. He had to clear his thoughts. He carried his great axe close to him, no need to be caught off guard. The counsel were driving him insane. The scrolls he had to read daily, the talks of how to be a good ruler, all this affected how he can think.
He walked into the forest, nodding to the workers there. He only needed a day or so away from his kingdom. He left the Counsel in charge in his absence. He continued walking deeper and deeper into the forest, the light barely escaping through the leaves of the tree tops. Such a peaceful place this was, the slight breeze flowing through the trees, the animal sounds, the dwarf following behind him...wait.
Efren turned around only to see the dwarf dart behind a tree. "Show yourself, I know you are there." he said calmly to the dwarf.
The dwarf gave a sigh, and slowly walked from behind the tree. "Yes, your Majesty." he said while bowing.
Efren shook his head. "No need to bow, why are you following me?"
The dwarf looked at Efren, "The Counsel asked me to, they said it would be better if someone watch your back."
Efren's face grew red, "Damn them Counselmen, I want you to go back to the mountain, and tell them I will be back in a day or so." He pointed to the mountains. "When I say no one follow me, I mean it..." He turned and walked briskly away, hearing the other dwarf's feet dwindle off in the distance.
Efren sighed, did the Counsel not trust him at all? He will make them trust him, whether by force or not. He continued along until the plains came into view. Efren breathed in deep, and slung his axe over his shoulder, he exhaled. "Such a wonderful place, still untouched by time and change..." He walked up the hill to look down at a town just below. "Perhaps I spoke to soon?"
Efren stood there and looked over the lands.
